Press Release: LAWPRO Invites Proposals for a Public Art Project in Co. Kerry

Wednesday 28th of May 2025: The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) working on behalf of Ireland’s 31 local authorities to protect and restore good or high water quality in rivers, lakes, estuaries, ground and coastal water, invites artists to submit proposals for a public art project on the Iveragh Peninsula in Co. Kerry.

The artwork will aim to celebrate and raise awareness of blue dot waterbodies in the area. Blue dots are high status objective waterbodies. It is planned to create a pair of interlinked unique artworks for display in two outdoor sites on the peninsula.

“This project offers an opportunity to connect people with the beauty and importance of our most pristine waters,” said Barry Deane, Regional Coordinator with LAWPRO. “We are inviting   artists to make a submission to celebrate these Blue Dot waterbodies in the form of public art. Through this project we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation of Ireland’s natural heritage and encourage communities to protect these vital ecosystems for generations to come.”

Blue Dot Waterbodies represent some of our cleanest and most sensitive rivers, lakes, estuaries, and coastal waters. LAWPRO collaborates with local communities through the Blue Dots Catchments Programme to protect and improve our high-status objective waters so that the benefits to biodiversity, our health and wellbeing, our heritage and the climate can be enjoyed by current and future generations.
