What is the purpose of this workshop?

The aim of this event is to bring all stakeholders together to discuss issues affecting the River Tolka in south east Meath, and possible projects to help project, enhance and restore the river. The event will be hosted and facilitated by Micheál O Cinneide, former Director of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Everyone with an interest in protecting the river is welcome to attend. We would like input from local community groups, anglers, landowners, recreational users, and the general public. Relevant agencies who have a role in managing the river will also be in attendance to answer questions, give information on issues affecting the river and suggest possible ways to mitigate these issues.

Event Background and Context:

This visioning event is in response to interest from a multinational company in funding water-based project in the southeast Meath area. To identify suitable projects, it is essential to engage with the local community together with relevant agencies and other stakeholders to inform proposed project proposals.

Event Format:

This will be an engaging and interactive event designed to involve all stakeholders in the generation of project ideas and proposals. Agency experts will provide information and advice on the river, but everybody will be invited to put forward project suggestions. These suggestions will be discussed and scrutinised during the event. A number of project proposals will be included in a final visioning document with some project proposals potentially being funded for feasibility studies at a later date.

Proposed Outcome:

The main outcome from this event will be a Vision Document for the river Tolka in southeast Meath. This document will list a number of proposed projects coming from the workshop that are community informed and agency supported. At least one of these projects will go forward to be funded for a feasibility study with the aim of delivering a capital project.
