What is the purpose of this workshop?

The aim of this event is to bring all stakeholders together to discuss issues affecting the Bracken river and ways to protect, enhance and restore the river into the future.

The event will be hosted and facilitated by Micheál O Cinneide, former Director of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

Everyone with an interest in protecting the river is welcome to attend. We would like input from local community groups, anglers, landowners, recreational users and the general public.

Relevant agencies who have a role in managing the river will also be in attendance to answer questions, give information on issues affecting the river and suggest possible ways to mitigate these issues.

Event Background and Context:

This visioning event is the culmination of a lot of work done in Balbriggan in recent years by both the community and Fingal County Council/ the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Project in relation to the Bracken river.

This increased interest in protecting and managing the river appropriately into the future was the impetus for this event and to develop an overall vision for the Bracken river.

Event Format:

This will be an engaging and interactive event designed to involve all stakeholders in suggesting ideas for the river. Agency experts will provide information and advice on the river, but everybody in attendance will be involved in the discussion. Suggestions will be discussed and scrutinised during the event and will form the basis of the final visioning document, which will be completed after the event.

Proposed Outcome:

The main outcome from this event will be a Vision Document for the Bracken river, which will be used to inform any future plans or developments affecting the Bracken and also contribute towards a more holistic management approach for the river.
